- 14世纪晚期进入英语,直接源自古法语的remain;最初源自拉丁语的remanere:re (回) + manere (放,置),意为保留。
用法辨析
- remain的基本意思是“留下”“继续”,即在一段时间内持续地处于某位置或某状态,含有在别人走了的情况下仍然留下或在别的事物都改变了的情况下依然保持不变的意味。
- remain主要用作不及物动词,常与 away , behind, in, of, on, out, up等介、副词连用,表示各种附加意义。
- remain可与there连用,表示“只剩下”“还有”。
- remain还可用作系动词,接名词、形容词(有时其后可接介词短语)、过去分词、现在分词作表语。remain还可接as引导的从句作表语。
