till用作连词用于肯定句时表示“直到…为止”,指某一动作或状态一直持续到till后面的句子所表示的时间为止,这时主句的谓语动词是延续性动词。
till用于否定句时表示“在…以前,直到…才”,这时主句表示的是一种持续的否定状态,否定状态一结束,肯定动作或状态就开始。
till引出的从句中,谓语动词常用一般现在时或现在完成时表示将来,一般不用shall, will或would。
如果主句的谓语动词是过去时,那么till引出的从句中的谓语动词可用过去式,也可用“should+动词原形”,前者含有“果然”或“一定”的意思,后者含有“盼望”的意思。
